CAD

The CAD (Computer-Aided Design) module allows you to view CAD drawings and synchronise plan information from the drawing into K2.

You can use the CAD module to help you do the following:

Using the CAD Viewer

You can use the CAD Viewer to view CAD Drawings that have been uploaded to K2.

A CAD drawing must be loaded in K2 as a document to be viewed in the CAD viewer.

To use the CAD Viewer:

  • Open or attach the relevant CAD document with the Documents Panel (accessed by navigating to View > Panels > Documents).

CAD Mapping

A prerequisite for the CAD synchronisation process to succeed is that the Unique Identifier field on each building and site is populated with an appropriate value to match the blocks in the CAD drawing.

Multiple drawings can be mapped during each mapping process.

You can map buildings, sites or both with the CAD Mapping process. CAD drawing attributes must be specified prior to performing the first CAD Mapping or CAD synchronisation. These can be defined in CAD Attribute Manager (accessed by navigating to Functions > CAD > CAD Attribute Manager).

To use CAD Mapping:

  • Navigate to Functions > CAD > CAD Mapping.

The CAD Mapping window is displayed.

The fields on the CAD Mapping window are described in the following table:

Field…

The result of the mapping process can be viewed in the Notification List panel.

If a building or site is mapped incorrectly the unique identifier can be removed by clicking the 'Clear Unique Identifier' link on the building or site editor. Only a user with the system administrator role can clear the unique identifier.

CAD Synchronisation

CAD drawing files that are required for use in the CAD Synchronisation process will need to be attached to a database record somewhere in the application. You can attach CAD drawings to an appropriate business unit above the buildings, floors, rooms, sites, and zones they represent.

The CAD drawing files must be uploaded to K2. When uploading a drawing, the 'Link Only' check box is selected by default and must be deselected for CAD drawings.

To synchronise CAD drawing files:

  • Navigate to Functions > CAD > CAD Synchronise.

The CAD Synchronisation window is displayed.

image-20240313-085238.png

The fields on the CAD Synchronisation window are described in the following table:

This Field…

Does this...

Select/Deselect all

Selects or deselects business units.

Group By Business Unit

Whether to group by business unit.

Show all

CAD drawings are filtered by the business units the user has permission to view.

Document Name

The relevant documents.

Specify synchronisation actions

The synchronisation actions for buildings, rooms and floors.

If you select room attributes you must select 'Room Usage'. Room use is a mandatory field in K2 and is required when creating new room records.

  • Select from:

    • Write information to the drawing - updates the CAD drawing with the value stored in the K2 field - currently unavailable

    • Retrieve data from the drawing - updates the K2 field with the value stored in the CAD drawing attribute

    • Report difference between the drawing - compares the K2 field with the value stored in the CAD drawing attribute, reporting differences - currently unavailable

The CAD synchronisation process will only run with 'Retrieve data from the drawing'. The 'Write information to the drawing' and 'Report difference between the drawing' options are currently unused but is intended for future use. While this option appears enabled and can be selected, it contains no functionality.

  • Select the relevant CAD Drawing(s).

CAD drawing attributes must be specified prior to performing the first CAD Mapping or CAD synchronisation. These can be defined in CAD Attribute Manager (accessed by navigating to Functions > CAD > CAD Attribute Manager).

  • Click Synchronise.

The synchronisation request is submitted to the queue and is processed by the K2 workflow engine.

You must specify drawing attributes prior to performing the first CAD Mapping or CAD Synchronisation.
